StoryADay May Challenge
It’s May! The best month of the year!
It’s my birthday month.
Frankly, I’ve never been one of those celebrate-all-month-long types. I didn’t see the purpose of it. But let’s face it. This year is going down in the record books. No one anticipated that the twenties would kick off with a quarantine of epic proportions. So I needed to do something on a grand scale too.
After some thought—and a fortuitous email—I decided to take part in a challenge for the entire month. Those who follow me know that I do Instagram challenges each month, but this isn’t one of them. This one is grander, more involved.
The StoryADay Challenge! I’ll be writing a short story every day during the month. All of my stories will interconnect around a theme. Who knows? At the end of the month, I might just have a new novella to send to the editor!
What’s the Idea?
My daily short stories will be paranormal tales of roughly chapter length (approximately 1,500 words). The overall story will take place in a town called Oak Moon Bay. I haven’t decided what region the town is in, but that’s a name that came to me while browsing Pinterest.
While watching one of my new guilty pleasures—Motherland: Fort Salem—these lines came to me:
“Her song was beautiful yet filled with pain. It encompasses her entire life experience, spanning centuries and lifetimes. But just as it was lovely, it was deadly. Each note had the ability to end lives.”
I’m working on the framework for the story. I’ll have it posted later today with snippets up on social media. Stay tuned…
