¡Feliz día de los Muertos!
Were you looking for today’s Center Stage Moment? My alter ego, Nadirah Foxx, got the honor today. If you’re eighteen and older, hop over to the Foxx blog, and check out an Up Close & Personal with author K. Margaret!
Although today is a celebration of those who’ve passed, it’s also the first day of NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month). If you’re unfamiliar with the event, it’s thirty days of intensive writing to get a 50,000 word rough draft completed. El día de los Muertos is the perfect day to kick off NaNoWriMo. Essentially writers are laying down the bones of their stories.
I’ll be working on a new Nadirah Foxx story called Shadow Love. I have a proofreading job to complete as well. I’m also drafting an episodic serial, Hallowed Holiday, featuring the characters from Cursed Hearts. If it doesn’t get accepted by Radish Fiction, then I’ll be preparing it for an anthology submission next Christmas.
Looking back over the year thus far, I’m pretty proud of myself. Last NaNoWriMo, I was drafting one story with nothing else planned. This year I’m stretching myself to see what all I can get done. I have high hopes.
If you’re a writer (published or waiting to be), I challenge you to stretch yourself. See what you can get accomplished this November. Lay down some bones. It doesn’t matter if those suckers are bleached and warped or perfectly clean. Just get them down. Come December 1st let them rest. Give them a month before you check out what you put down. You might be surprised to find you possess the perfect flesh and blood to cover those bones. In other words, a story is inside you. Give yourself permission to let it out.
Next week A Center Stage Moment will be back with author Victoria Flynn!
