A Writer’s Soul is a glimpse into my thoughts and process as an author. A chance for you, the reader, to check out the progress of my current work-in-progress and find out what I’m reading.
Last week was all about catching up. Let’s see how I did.
1) LAST WEEK’S GOALS:
The only goal this week is to finish he revisions on Delivering Sin. I’ve pushed the deadline back a smidgen to accommodate by progress. I should be able to finish by Tuesday. Wednesday would be the latest.
Once I finish the revision, I’m taking a mini-break before tackling a new project. I’ll tell you about this one in a minute. DONE!
2) THIS WEEK’S GOALS:
Return to the draft of Finding Me. Currently 21,052 words are written. I’m setting a goal of 1,997 words per day for a total of 9,985 for the week.
3) A FAVORITE LINE OR PASSAGE FROM MY STORY THAT SUMS UP WHAT I WROTE/REVISED:
I typed THE END and thought I was done but my muse tapped me on the shoulder. I needed to write another critical scene.
A breathy moan escaped my mouth. All the memories shuffled back at me, but there was one—the time I spent with Amun—that gave me clarity. Both of us were under the influence of two spirits. Our actions didn’t really belong to us. [Sinatra, Delivering Sin by Nadirah Foxx]
Sinatra and Jake needed an intimate moment where they were both aware of the other.
4) THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE I FACED LAST WEEK:
Taking a break. On the first day I admit to feeling lost. I did catch up on “Orphan Black”. Any fans here? I loved the series but the finale was kind of meh.
5) SOMETHING I LOVE ABOUT MY WIP:
I successfully wrote a standalone! These characters won’t appear in another book. The story doesn’t cross into another. It’s complete. Delivering Sin is part of a series of standalones all about Finding Love. Each story will be unique to itself.
I have to admit writing a standalone is challenging. There were many days I wanted to cut Sinatra and Jake’s story down and have a sequel. Happily, it all fit into one novel.
How I’m feeding my soul this week…
I’m reading a couple of books at the moment:
So far it reminds me of Kami Garcia’s Beautiful Creatures. It has that haunting quality to it with characters that seem innocent but you know they’re hiding secrets.
This one is an intriguing, sexy read with a main character I’m not sure whether I should love him or hate his arrogance yet.
That’s all for now.
