A WRITER’S SOUL: My Weekly Goals & Such

It’s time to take a look at last week’s goals…

First, how was your weekend? Mine was pretty good. I got some writing done, watched a little tv, and hung out with my daughter. Let’s see how I did last week.

1) LAST WEEK’S GOALS:

*Continue draft on Delivering Sin. Goal is to reach Chapter Fourteen. Goal reached!

*Make up countdown graphics for Blessed HeartsForgot about it!

*Draft book description for Delivering SinForgot this, too!

2) THIS WEEK’S GOALS:

*Continue draft on Delivering Sin. Goal is to reach Chapter Nineteen.

*Tackle second round edits for Blessed Hearts.

*Time permitting: make countdown graphics for Blessed Hearts.

3) A FAVORITE LINE OR PASSAGE FROM MY STORY THAT SUMS UP WHAT I WROTE/REVISED:

I’m pondering the possibilities of a future with this man all the way back to the hotel. When we’re about a block away, I decide to ask, “Jake, are you happy?”
“What do you mean?” His thumb rubs the back of my hand.
“I mean are you happy right now? What if I stayed, and Sinatra couldn’t come back?”
He side-glances at me. “I’m in love with Sinatra. I don’t know you, Amunet. If Sinatra doesn’t come back, I’ll miss her terribly.”
His words cut straight to my heart. “Couldn’t you learn to love me?”
Jake stops walking and faces me. “I won’t lie to you, Amunet. What we’re doing is fun, but it’s wrong. My heart belongs to Sinatra.”
I’ve never been rejected before. Even Amen tried to sugar-coat his dalliances with other women. I push my shoulders back and hold my chin high. “What if she doesn’t want you?”
His lips lift in a sexy, crooked grin. “Oh, she wants me. I know she does. And when this is all over, she’ll come to me.”
“Don’t be so sure of yourself,” I warn him.
Amunet, he is mine.

This is one of my favorite passages so far. Amunet and Sinatra are at a crossroads. Amunet has decided she wants Jake. He’s a better man than Amen ever was. Plus, Sinatra doesn’t show any interest. Sinatra, on the other hand, is changing her mind about Jake. She’s ready to fight for him.

4) THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE I FACED LAST WEEK:

I had an appointment last week on the same day of my kickboxing class. My entire writing day was shot. The following day I had a hard time writing, just couldn’t get my mind into it. But Friday… oh, thank God for Friday! I got my word count in super early. My focus was so sharp I was able to get all my work done ahead of schedule.

5) SOMETHING I LOVE ABOUT MY WIP:

I love how Delivering Sin is getting a bit more complex. This story started out as a tale about a man, possessed by an ancient Egyptian deity, and a woman he was pursuing. As the story evolved, I added more characters and real conflict. Now there’s drama along with plenty of sexual tension. It’s my first foray into steamy romance and I’m enjoying the story.
