It’s time to take a look at last week’s goals…
First, how was your weekend? Atlanta wasn’t so hot. Actually it was quite cool but comfortable. The sun was shining all weekend. Simply beautiful…
My daughter comes home for the summer this week! Yay! She worked very hard this last semester. Next year will be her last year of undergrad. She’s a graphic artist and we’re actually working on a few project ideas together.
1) LAST WEEK’S GOALS:
*Continue with All Things Dark & Magickal. The goal? Finishing by Saturday. Done. The anthology is done as well. So, I’ve identified a potential cover artist for the novella. I’ve tentatively planned the release for 2018. No dates yet.
*Reading through Blessed Hearts for revision work. Done. I’m working on the revisions now.
*Continue research and plotting on Delivering Sin. Will start draft once ATD&M is completed. I’ve drafted the first chapter so far.
2) THIS WEEK’S GOALS:
*Continue revisions of Blessed Hearts. The goal is to complete by the 21st working on a minimum of two chapters daily.
*Continue draft on Delivering Sin. The original deadline for the draft was June 9th. I may need to extend this.
3) A FAVORITE LINE OR PASSAGE FROM MY STORY THAT SUMS UP WHAT I WROTE/REVISED:
A sharp spark radiates between us. But it’s not the jolt of energy unnerving me. Tiny tendrils from our auras, one gold and the other silver, dance toward each other across the space. My heart twitches while images of her golden body beneath mine flicker through my mind. I can’t explain this sensation. It sets me on edge, sending my pulse racing. Unable to bear another minute, I yank my hand away. [Cash Martin, Blessed Hearts]
This is a scene I added during revision. I added a dream sequence, earlier in the story, with Cash invading the dream of a woman. He didn’t finish his task because he was interrupted. He’s at the local diner with Qadira, the djinniyah, when one of the waitresses talks about the failure of a certain incubus to complete the task at hand. Cash and Qadira’s hands brush against each other and sparks flare.
My MC has never experienced love so, it’s important for me to show these new emotions and not just rely on the spark between them.
4) THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE I FACED LAST WEEK:
Focus reared its ugly head again. I’m excited to write Delivering Sin (finally), but revising Blessed Hearts demands attention as well. So, I put DS to the side for a few days to get started on the revision. Reality joined the fray as well. I’m publishing in June, July, August, and September. I’m going to have to work some weekends in order to accomplish it all.
5) SOMETHING I LOVE ABOUT MY WIP:
Which one? Let’s talk about Blessed Hearts… I’ve always loved my character Cash Martin. That relationship became deeper when I stumbled across his psychology last week. It’s complex and could be dark, but he refuses to let it go there. He’s a supernatural who didn’t have the benefit of having his mother raise him completely. He was thrust upon servants while she carried out her succubus duties. When his sister was born, he raised her. The poor guy doesn’t recognize love and intimacy. He understands sex because he’s hard-wired to perform for preservation’s sake—Lilin don’t live long if they don’t replace their energy stores through sex.
I also love the character of Hadid, the blue djinni. He’s modeled on Robin Williams’ version of a genie in the Aladdin movie. I’ve given Hadid a few passages of colorful dialogue. He has witty commentary on everything. He’s the light keeping this story from being a shade too dark.
How I’m feeding my soul this week…
I’m reading Sarah J. Maas’ The Court of Wings And Ruin! I waited too long for this one (my delivery was delayed—who ships a package to Atlanta from Florida through Tennessee?).
I will also start Nikki Belaire’s latest!
That’s it for now.
