Happy Monday! How was your weekend? We spent the weekend with our daughter at Troy University. She’s a happy camper so, we’re pleased. Let’s see how I did with last week’s goals.
1) LAST WEEK’S PROJECTIONS:
*Continue working on Cursed Hearts. Finished. The rewrite is done and is ready for the editor.
*Re-read Rebel. Thanks to the rewrite I didn’t get this done.
2) THIS WEEK’S PROJECTIONS:
*Continue with the draft of Blessed Hearts.
3) A FAVORITE LINE OR PASSAGE FROM MY STORY THAT SUMS UP WHAT I WROTE/REVISED:
Heaviness weighs down on me as I walk toward Jonah. I experience more of his pain the closer I get. He looks up, and I see his bloodshot eyes. Victor drops his hand. Reluctantly, I go to Jonah. He wraps his arms around me and sobs uncontrollably. My throat hurts from swallowing my grief. [Kelsie Martin, Cursed Hearts]
With the rewrite I expanded the scene at the hospital. I think it helps the reader connect more to the characters.
4) THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE I FACED LAST WEEK: Staying in the moment. Because I was working with a tight, self-imposed deadline with the rewrite I had to work on only one project. I discovered that when the writing was difficult it was because the scene wasn’t working. So there were scenes that I cut. There were passages that didn’t get included. I think I kept the spirit of the original without straying off the mark.
5) SOMETHING I LOVE ABOUT MY WIP: I think I can finally say I love this version of Cursed Hearts. My anxiety was working overtime, but I couldn’t figure out what was wrong. Now the characters are more complex. The plot is tighter. I’ve now sprinkled in details which will carry over into the second book. Much better than before.
How I’m feeding my soul this week…
I’ve been struggling to finish a few books. Usually reading more than one book at a time isn’t a problem. But I’ve been so focused on getting this rewrite done that I haven’t had much time for anything else. So I’m hoping to get at least a couple finished this week.
